Out of 100 tournaments on this year’s WSOP schedule, six are new events that have buy-ins between $1,000 and $25,000.
Event #14 $25,000 High Roller PLO/NLH is an 8-handed event that is scheduled to run over three days. This is a new mixed-game high roller that expects to attract some of the biggest names in poker.
Event #24 $1,500 PLO Double Bomb Board will be 8-handed. Last year’s Double Bomb Board event was mixed with PLO and NLH, but this year will be exclusively PLO.
Event #59 $1,000 Battle of the Ages offers a unique twist on an NLH tournament. Players aged 50 and over will play on Day 1A, while anyone under 50 will play on Day 1B. Any survivors from Day 1’s opening flights will combine into one field for Day 2.
Event #79 $100,000 High Roller PLO is a new addition this summer. It’s one of 11 High Roller affairs and joins the $100,000 High Roller NLH as the second-largest buy-in behind the $250,000 Super High Roller.
Event #87 $5,000 Super Turbo Bounty NLH will be a one-day event.
Event #93 $3,000 TORSE is a clever new invention. This tweaked version of HORSE replaces limit hold’em with Triple Draw.

Say Goodbye to the TOC and Flip & Go
Three tournaments from last year are not on this summer’s schedule. That includes the Tournament of Champions, or the Reunion Freezeout, which is gone. The controversial Flip & Go by GGPoker is no longer on the docket either. To make room for the new TORSE event, the organizers cut $3,000 HORSE.
The Casino Employees tournament has been rebranded as the Industry Employees event. It still has a $500 buy-in and is slated for the first day of the WSOP on May 27.
In addition, last year’s $500 WSOP Kickoff NLH freezeout has been renamed as the $500 NLH Freezeout. Instead of hosting it on the first day of the WSOP, the $500 Freezeout will take place on June 23.

Quickie 2024 Recap: Tamayo Defending Champ, Seiver Wins POY
Jonathan Tamayo won the 2024 WSOP Main Event for a hefty score worth $10 million. He’s the defending champion after defeating a record-breaking field of 10,112 entrants. For a second year in a row, the Main Event topped 10,000 runners. The organizers anticipate another record-breaking Main Event in 2025 with online satellites running on WSOP Online and GG Poker in addition to around-the-clock satellites in Las Vegas.
Scott Seiver won three bracelets last summer and joined the “Seven Timers Club.” Seiver also secured the 2024 WSOP Player of the Year thanks to his three victories. He edged out Jeremy Ausmus, who advanced to seven final tables last year.
Phil Ivey and Daniel Negreanu finally won a bracelet after getting shut out for over a decade. Ivey secured bracelet #11 with a victory in the $10,000 Limit 2-7 Triple Draw Championship, which marked his first WSOP win since 2014. Negreanu took down the $50,000 Poker Players Championship for his seventh bracelet, which was his first win since 2013.
The 2025 WSOP will mark the first year under new ownership. The WSOP announced last August that they were acquired by the NSUS Group for $500 million. NSUS is also the parent company behind GGPoker.
